Course and Schedule Planning

General Information

Students sometimes only consider what courses are necessary to graduate and when are they being offered. There is so much more to choosing the right balance of courses for which to register.

To be successful, students must balance many demands on their time. Students need to develop a realistic plan that strikes a balance between school and other responsibilities such as work, family, friends, and personal "downtime". In addition to time management, students must also consider how many courses they can mange given their financial situation. Only after considering all of these factors together, can a student make reasonable choice about registering for courses.

The "how" of registering courses is easier to figure out than the "what", where", when" and "how many". . These are just some of the questions that need to be answered when registering for courses:

  • How many hours a week will I be working while going to school?
  • How am I paying for my courses?
  • How many courses can I afford to take?
  • Do I need to go to school full time or can I go to school part time?
  • On which campus is my program/course offered?
  • Do I want to pursue a degree or just take a few courses?
  • Am I pursuing the right course or degree for me?
  • Do I have reliable private transportation to get to class or do I need to take public transportation?
  • How will I balance school, work and/or family?

Students should take the lead role in working with Advisors to answer these questions and determine the best course selection and academic plan to fit their individual needs.
